Rainbow Six Siege 2FA has arrived! Ubisoft has announced on their official Twitter page that Rainbow Six Siege players with Ubisoft accounts will now be able to enable two-factor authentication (2FA). 2FA is a feature designed to add a layer of security to your login and payment credentials, as it means that you’ll need to provide extra information on top of your usual passwords in order to access your account and make in-game purchases. This comes in the wake of Fortnite having enabled 2FA recently. Fortnite players who set up the security measure are being rewarded with the Boogie Down emote, which is a nice incentive for people to protect their money. Rainbow Six Siege is taking 2FA to new extremes, though, as enabling it is required if you want to play from Year 3, Season 3 onward.
Rainbow Six Siege 2FA Guide: What Does 2FA Do?
Enabling two-factor-authentication is actually quite an easy thing to do. In Ubisoft’s case, you’ll be using a code that will be randomly generated for your smartphone, which will have a 30-second expiry limit. You’ll be providing this as well as your usual login details in order to access your account, so even if your account details are stolen, the burglars won’t have your smartphone (well, hopefully).
Rainbow Six Siege 2FA Guide: How To Enable 2FA
First, you’ll want to visit the Ubisoft Account website. Log in with your regular details (it isn’t actually set up yet, so nodes codes necessary) and make your way to Security Settings. Select “Activate 2-Step Verification”. An email will be sent to the email address currently associated with your Ubisoft account
This email will give you a list of instructions and a clickable link. Click the link, and then click the “Get Started” button. From here, you’ll be guided step-by-step through the process of initializing 2FA. Once that’s done, you’ll need to download an authenticator onto your smartphone. Google Authenticator is the best app for this, and is available on both iOS and Android.
Open the app and select “Set up account” from the options menu, where you’ll need to decide on your preferred setup method. Again, you’ll be guided step-by-step in-app, which will culminate in you being presented with a unique QR code. This code will complete the synchronization between your Ubisoft account and Google Authenticator, meaning that your 2FA is now fully intact. Remember to jot down your recovery codes before clicking “Finish.” These codes can be used to recover your account if there are any issues with authentication, or should you happen to lose the phone associated with your account.
From here, all you need to do is confirm that 2FA has been enabled. Also, you’ll be rewarded for your efforts with a full thermite set. Lucky you!
