There are four gun tiers in Far Cry New Dawn: Rank 1 (gray), Rank 2 (blue), Rank 3 (purple), and Elite (gold). Each weapon set comprises of about a dozen or so armaments that all grow more complicated as they progress to the next tier. They also grow more powerful as well, which will be the main reason you need to progress.

To unlock the gun tiers in Far Cry New Dawn, you’ll need to recruit Grace Armstrong by going to her icon on the map and doing her mission. You’ll recognize her if you played Far Cry 5 as she was the sniper in that game. Armstrong is one of the first missions on the map once you get to the open world.
From there, you’ll need to upgrade your workbench on your homebase, which is has a blue banner with a gun on it. The first upgrade only take some ethanol to level up while the second tier takes 700 ethanol as well as a your homebase being at level three.
While you may be tempted to burn right to level three as soon as you can to get a better workbench, you’ll have to progress the story to a certain point to be able to upgrade your base to that third level. You’ll likely be locked out of the big house where you upgrade your base as a whole until you play the specific mission.
As you get a better workbench, the weapons will take more materials to craft. Weapons begin to not only take higher amounts of ethanol, duct tape, components, gears, and springs but they’ll also begin to suck up titanium, circuit, boards, and carbon fiber as well as monstrous animal skins. These items are much more rare.
