Borderlands 3 has been properly revealed at last, and it’s coming out this September 13. That’s all good news, but if you haven’t been paying attention to the Borderlands hype then you might not even know what type of game it is, since it’s been five years since Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel after all. On the other hand, you may simply have heard rumors about a Borderlands 3 battle royale mode. Is there one? Let’s have a look.
Will there be a Borderlands 3 battle royale mode?
The rumors about a Fortnite or Apex Legends-style battle royale mode in Borderlands 3 started a long time ago, and probably started with a joke. Before Borderlands 3 was properly announced, there were plenty of teases about Gearbox’s next game in the series, but nothing concrete. Seeing as the battle royale game-type is popular now, a lot of players either joked or just feared that the next Borderlands would be a battle royale game too.
The good news then is that there is no Borderlands 3 battle royale mode. Borderlands 3 is, as far as we’re aware, entirely battle royale free, and Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford even confirmed that fact at the game’s reveal event to a delighted and cheering audience.
What game modes can we expect from Borderlands 3?
If you’re not aware or have never played a Borderlands game, it’s basically a loot shooter like Destiny, The Division or Anthem, except probably closer to a first-person Diablo. Players can explore the world on their own or in a group of up to four players. Take on missions, confront bosses, talk to weird and wonderful characters, and search for sweet loot, which in Borderlands is basically guns. Lots and lots of guns. You can’t have them all equipped at once, but there’s so many exciting and odd weapon types you’ll want to keep on looking for even madder guns all the time. And that’s Borderlands in a nutshell.
