Call of Duty Modern Warfare Dark Edition | What pre-order bonuses are available?

The new Call of Duty game for 2019 has been revealed as Call of Duty Modern Warfare, which will be a “re-imagining” of the popular Modern Warfare, but not a remake of Call of Duty 4 or anything like that. It’ll be out at the end of the year, on October 25 to be precise, and as befitting a game of its popularity there will be multiple editions of Modern Warfare available. But what’s in the standard, Operator, and Precision editions of the game? Are there any pre-order bonuses? And just what is the mysterious Call of Duty Modern Warfare Dark Edition? We’ve got the details below.

What is the Call of Duty Modern Warfare Dark Edition?

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Dark Edition GameStop

There are multiple different versions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to choose from, and we’ll get in to the details of all of them below, but the one version we don’t know much about is the mysterious Call of Duty Modern Warfare Dark Edition. This is clearly a special collector’s edition of the new Modern Warfare, as it costs a massive $199.99, and will be only available at GameStop in the US apparently. It was spotted by Call of Duty site CharlieIntel and snapped, as the page was pulled shortly afterwards. We’ll know more later, possibly even at E3, if there’s something exciting in there worth keeping the Dark Edition secret for.

What is available in the Call of Duty Modern Warfare Standard Edition?

The basic, standard edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will come with the game and any applicable pre-order bonuses, which we’ll go into in more detail below. This applies to both the physical edition at places like GameStop and Amazon, and the digital edition on Microsoft Store, PSN Store, and The standard edition price is generally $59.99.

What is available in the Call of Duty Modern Warfare Operator Edition?

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Operator Edition

The Operator Edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the proper name for the special digital edition of the game. Just to make things even more confusing, there are actually two versions of the Operator Edition, which is in addition to the standard digital edition. The normal Operator Edition includes a custom in-game tactical knife and the “Operator pack,” which includes three themed (even more confusingly named) Operator packs: the Crew Expendable, All Ghillied Up, and War Pro packs. This include a unique skin, a special weapon variant, and additional bonus items. This version costs $79.99.

The more expensive Operator Enhanced Edition contains all the same bonuses as the regular Operator Edition, but comes with an additional 3,000 Call of Duty Points to spend in the Modern Warfare in-game store. It costs $99.99. Better decide if it’s worth it. Both versions come with the game of course, and any pre-order bonuses.

What is available in the Call of Duty Modern Warfare Precision Edition?

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Precision Edition

The Call of Duty Modern Warfare Precision Edition is a special physical edition of the game, and at the moment like the intriguing Dark Edition it’s exclusive to GameStop in the US. It includes a physical copy of Call of Duty Modern Warfare, a collectible steelbook, KontrolFreek Modern Warfare-branded thumbsticks, and a special KontrolFreek Modern Warfare controller skin. Presumably this version is sponsored by KontrolFreek in some way. It also includes pre-order bonuses and the Operator Pack of digital items mentioned with the Operator Edition above. It costs $99.99, so definitely isn’t the Dark Edition, if you were wondering that. Now, let’s detail all those pre-order bonuses…

Are there any Call of Duty Modern Warfare pre-order bonuses?

If you pre-order any version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare you’ll have access to the same range of pre-order bonuses in all versions of the game: Standard, Operator, Operator Enhanced, Precision, and presumably the mysterious Dark Edition too. Pre-ordering the game on any platform, or any edition, will get you a digital bonus item, which is presumably the custom in-game tactical knife. You’ll also get immediate access to a digital prestige token for use in last year’s game Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

Additionally, the digital PS4 version of Modern Warfare comes with a PS4 Dynamic Reveal theme. GameStop editions are also including a digital C.O.D.E. calling card, a donation to the Call of Duty Endowment charity which helps unemployed veterans get work, and a collectible two-sided poster.
