A TimeSplitters on PC release date would be a most pleasing surprise for fans of the franchise. Not only has the franchise been on pause since TimeSplitters: Future Perfect released in 2005, but PC players have never had the chance to (officially) enjoy the trilogy on their platform. It’s been 14 years since the last game launched, and the PC platform has grown significantly, encouraging publishers and developers to expand previous console exclusives to include budget and enthusiast PC gaming systems. If TimeSplitters is indeed launching soon, it seems reasonable to think that PC players would be included. Read on for what we know so far about a TimeSplitters PC release in 2019/2020.
When is the TimeSplitters on PC release date?
Though nothing has been officially confirmed, a TimeSplitters on PC release date is becoming more and more likely. In its 2019 Q1 Financial Report, THQ Nordic mentioned TimeSplitters, saying that “one of the series’ creators, Steve Ellis, has joined us to help plot the future course for this franchise.”
At the time of writing, it certainly seems as though TimeSplitters is on course for a comeback. With that said, it’s unclear whether this would be a simple remaster of the trilogy, a complete reboot, or a proper sequel. There has been a huge shift in the gaming industry since 2005, with remasters and reboots becoming commonplace.
It’s not yet clear when we’ll hear more from THQ Nordic about the new TimeSplitters game. Here’s hoping fans get more information sooner, rather than later.
In the meantime, there is the unofficial TimeSplitters Rewind project, which aims to remaster the games for PC and modern consoles. The latest project update (embedded below) contains actual gameplay from single-player levels, in addition to examples of the multiplayer. It remains to be seen whether or not this project will be allowed to continue alongside the official TimeSplitters game.
