Niantic Labs and Nintendo’s real-world Pokemon catching game took the globe by storm when it launched back in the summer of 2016, so it’s no surprise that just one year later Pokemon GO Fest was born with the inaugural 2017 event. This large-scale celebration of the game was hosted in Chicago’s Grant Park before it moved to The Windy City’s Lincoln Park in 2018, then back to Grant Park for 2019’s iteration earlier this summer. Eager fans have since been left wondering where Pokemon GO Fest 2020 will take place, though.
Pokemon GO Fest 2020 | Event time and location
No official word has yet been shared on when and/or where next year’s event will take place, but by using some skills of deduction it’s possible to make a few educated guesses.
With a 100% track record for hosting the US branch of Pokemon GO Fest in Chicago during the summer, specifically in the months of June and July, it seems logical that Nintendo and Niantic wouldn’t see fit to reinvent the wheel, so to speak. Bar some hiccups during the original 2017 event, which were perhaps to be expected, the city has played a great host to the largest Pokemon GO celebration on the calendar. When it’s a sure thing that people will flock to Chicago parks to take part during early summer, why change anything?
That being said, this obviously isn’t a certainty and the event organizers may want to mix things up a bit in order to keep those in other parts of the US happy.
As of this year, Pokemon GO Fest has spread outside of the United States of America, however, with festivities also taking place in Europe and Asia. The respectively selected locations were Dortmund, Germany and Yokohama, Japan; with those being the lucky first pair of host cities, if these regions elect to follow North America’s lead Pokemon GO Fest 2020 could see fans making a return trip.
Those are our best guesses based on the locations of previous Pokemon GO events. We’ll be sure to update you with any official information on a potential Pokemon GO Fest 2020 as and when we get it. In the meantime, it’s also a good idea to bookmark and keep an eye on the game’s official events page.
