Can Villagers leave without asking in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Can Villagers leave without asking in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

So, you’ve searched far and wide for god-tier villagers like Audie and Raymond, finally securing them on your island, but now you’re worried about them disappearing without a trace. When neglected, villagers can sometimes appear with a frustrated cloud emote above their head, and will ask to leave the island when you speak to them. But what happens if you keep on neglecting them? Can villagers leave without asking in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

While in previous games villagers could leave without telling you first, in Animal Crossing: New Horizons you will always be told when a villager is thinking about leaving. This means that you never risk losing your favorite villagers, allowing you to maintain full control over who lives on your island.

Of course, it’s worth considering why a villager may want to leave your island. Neglecting to speak to them often can cause them to become frustrated and lonely. This can be quickly remedied by giving them attention and offering gifts.

Players who use time travel are most likely to run into villagers wanting to leave. Moving ahead two weeks, for example, is the same as not speaking to villagers for two weeks. While it might have only been five minutes in real-life, villagers don’t realize this.

We’d recommend keeping an eye out for villagers who have the frustrated cloud emote above their head. However, it isn’t necessary to keep them on your island. You’ll always be asked if you want a villager to leave.

This will be great news to hear for many players, as losing a favorite villager could be irreparable. With so many animals in the game, the chance of a familiar face popping up is pretty slim.

Just make sure you don’t actually tell a villager to leave in the dialogue options, and certainly don’t boot out your fave for a camper.
