When will HBO Max be on Firestick?

As of writing, at the new streaming service’s launch, the HBO Max app is not on Amazon Firestick. This is, of course, a disappointment, especially for those of us which use the Firestick as our primary streaming app device. When will HBO Max be on Firestick, though? In this guide, we take a look at when HBO Max could release on the Amazon Firestick. Read on to find out when we think the new streaming app will end up on Amazon’s streaming device.

When will HBO Max be on Firestick?

When will HBO Max be on Firestick

At launch, there is no sign of HBO Max on either the Amazon Firestick or Amazon Fire TV (it’s not on Roku, either). Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly when HBO Max will be on Firestick. For now, it’s not on there, but we know that there is currently a dispute between AT&T (HBO owners) and Amazon. We think, though, that it’s only a matter of time before HBO Max makes its way onto Amazon. HBO Max could be on Firestick soon, before the end of June 2020 soon.

According to TheMotleyFool, John Stankey (AT&T CEO) explained during a recent investor conference that “it looks like we may not be in the Amazon Fire app store when all of this is said and done.” This proved true, as HBO Max is not on any Amazon device. It appears as though the two companies are locked in negotiation, which happened, too, with Disney+.

An Amazon spokesperson told Decider that “With a seamless customer experience, nearly 5 million HBO streamers currently access their subscription through Amazon’s Prime Video Channels. Unfortunately, with the launch of HBO Max, AT&T is choosing to deny these loyal HBO customers access to the expanded catalog.” The spokesperson added that Amazon believes you should be able to upgrade to HBO Max on its platforms if you’re already subscribed to HBO through Amazon. “That’s just good customer service and that’s a priority for” Amazon, the spokesperson explained.

With over 40 million Amazon Fire TV accounts, however, we expect the dispute (whatever it may be about) to be concluded soon enough. HBO Max should end up on Amazon devices sooner rather than later. It’s a potential success story that neither company will want to miss out on.
