Fallout 76 | How to get a Backpack

Inventory space is limited in Fallout 76, and there’s only so much you can do to increase it. Fortunately, you can get a backpack to help cart around all the goods you find littered about the wasteland. These pieces of wearable gear provide extra carry weight and include several different options for customization. Here’s how to get one for yourself.

To get a Standard Backpack in Fallout 76, you need to reach the rank of Possum with the Pioneer Scouts. You can also get a Small Backpack by finding its crafting plan within the Morgantown Airport Terminal.

If storage space is your main concern, you’ll want to get the Standard Backpack. It’s offered through the Order of the Tadpole quest, which can be started by inspecting the Pioneer Scouts poster at any train station. This quest will eventually give you tasks where you’ll have to demonstrate four different qualities: Kindness, Bravery, Helpfulness, and Growth. These tasks will take a bit of time, but they’re not particularly difficult.

Once completed, you’ll be given the rank of Possum, and the Standard Backpack will be offered as a quest reward. It grants +10 carry weight at first, but will grant +60 carry weight once leveled up to level 50.

If you’re not ready or able to complete Order of the Tadpole, you can find plans to craft a Small Backpack at the Morgantown Airport Terminal. The plans are located inside the Overseer’s Cache. This bag is identical in appearance to the Standard variety, but only offers half the extra carry weight. When fully maxed out to level 50, it will provide +30 carry weight.

Both of the backpacks in Fallout 76 offer a way to increase your carry weight, but the Standard Backpack is the one preferred by most players. Still, as far as utility is concerned, both bags can be considered must-have items.
