When is the xCloud iOS release date? Now that the Project xCloud iOS closed beta has concluded, when should you expect the full version to launch? In this guide, we cover everything you need to know about Xbox Game Streaming on iOS (iPhone and iPad).

What is the xCloud iOS release date?

xCloud iOS release date

At the time of writing, there is no xCloud iOS release date. Microsoft wanted to launch the Xbox Game Streaming service on iOS in September, though the release was blocked by Apple. Until this dispute is settled, a potential xCloud iPhone and iPad release date will remain up in the air.

Apple told Business Insider that it blocked xCloud because it conflicts with their App Store review policies. “Before they go on our store, all apps are reviewed against the same set of guidelines that are intended to protect customers and provide a fair and level playing field to developers,” stated an Apple spokesperson. Because Microsoft isn’t submitting games for individual review, the application that grants access to those games was blocked entirely.

Microsoft hit back at Apple in a statement to Windows Central. According to Microsoft, Apple “stands alone” in denying cloud gaming applications on its platform. The Xbox manufacturer also called out the fact that Apple “consistently treats gaming apps differently” from non-gaming applications.

It’s clear that Microsoft will fight in an effort to secure an xCloud iOS release date, though when and even whether it’ll happen is ultimately Apple’s decision.
