Demon’s Souls | How to get the Large Sword of Searching

Surviving the world of Demon’s Souls means making the most out of everything you can find. Not only do you need the right gear, you also need the right items. Fortunately, the Large Sword of Searching works toward both of these goals. This blade is perfect for players looking to farm items, but you’ll need to equip one before you go out exploring. Here’s how to get the Large Sword of Searching for yourself.

You can get the Large Sword of Searching by speaking with Blacksmith Ed. This NPC can be found in the Stonefang Tunnel, near the Archstone in the Smithing Grounds of World 2-1. Blacksmith Ed will give you the Large Sword of Searching in exchange for the proper materials.

To get this blade for yourself, you’ll need to fork over a Hero Demon Soul as well as one of the following weapons:

  • Broad Sword +8
  • Claws +8
  • Falchion +8
  • Flamberge +8
  • Kilij +8
  • Scimitar +8
  • Shotel +8
  • Uchigatana +8
  • War Scyth +8

There are some things you should know about the Large Sword of Searching before you get one. First and foremost, it’s not actually a large sword — it’s instead classed as a curved sword. This means it doesn’t attack like large swords, but it can be used one-handed. Next, it’s actually not a very good weapon. It’s outmatched by pretty much any other weapon in its class, including the weapons required to craft it. Finally, it’s pretty ugly.

However, there’s one very good reason why you’d want to get a Large Sword of Searching: It doubles your Item Drop rate. This is immensely useful when trying to track down or farm hard-to-find items. The effect also works if you keep it equipped off-hand, which is great because doesn’t deal a lot of damage. Otherwise, it’s the perfect item to keep around if you’re grinding through Fractured Mode trying to get the Penetrator Armor set.
