Why don’t Modern Warfare double XP tokens work in Warzone?

Following the launch of Black Ops Cold War Season 1, Call of Duty: Warzone players are finding that their Modern Warfare 2XP tokens no longer work in the free-to-play battle royale game. Since users can unlock double XP tokens as part of paid battle passes, naturally, those affected are up in arms. But, why don’t Modern Warfare double XP tokens work in Warzone? Here’s the latest on the controversial situation.

Modern Warfare 2XP tokens aren’t working in Warzone

Why don't Modern Warfare double XP tokens work in Warzone?

CoD: Modern Warfare and Warzone have enjoyed complete cross-progression up until recently. The arrival of a Season 1 — a unified Call of Duty event spanning Black Ops Cold WarWarzone, and Modern Warfare — has changed that, however. Now, double XP tokens earned in CoD: MW can no longer be used in Warzone.

Modern Warfare double XP tokens do not work in Warzone anymore. A portion of the Call of Duty community believes that Activision implemented this change to encourage purchasing and transitioning over to its newer CoD title, Black Ops Cold War.

In fairness, a glitch caused by the recent Season 1 update could also be responsible for the broken Modern Warfare 2XP tokens in Warzone. Activision hasn’t commented on the issue yet, so there is a chance that the change is unintentional.

If that isn’t the case, however, many Call of Duty players will not be best pleased. One hot Reddit thread asks “Is this OK?” and the response is a collective “No.” Elsewhere, another Redditor asks: “Is this a bug or just Activision being scumbags as usual?

Only time will tell what the case may be regarding CoD: MW 2XP tokens not working in Warzone, so stay tuned for updates. Fingers crossed the issue is officially addressed sooner rather than later, though there is also the small matter of slow Season 1 leveling in Black Ops Cold War for Activision to look into.

Until then, check out the scheduled Season 1 end date and what’s happening with Zombies camos in Warzone.
