Back 4 Blood failed to create matchmaking session error fix

Those trying to participate in the Back 4 Blood open beta may get an error stating that the game can’t create a matchmaking session. While a few issues can cause this message, there’s one in particular that’s unique to this game. Here’s what to do if the game gets stuck on the sign-in screen, why matchmaking sessions may fail, and how to fix it.

How to fix matchmaking session failed error in Back 4 Blood

Back 4 Blood matchmaking failed fix

While there are things like internet connection issues or server problems that could cause matchmaking in Back 4 Blood to fail, there’s a particular issue some players will face that doesn’t have an obvious solution. Fortunately, there’s a quick fix to this that’ll have the game running in no time.

Those that participated in any previous Back 4 Blood playtests will likely find that they’re affected by the above error. In particular, we faced an issue because we had played the closed alpha late last year. There’s some sort of conflict between builds, and those that have the old alpha on their Steam accounts won’t be able to launch the game correctly.

The instructions below work whether a player has redeemed the open beta code or not. However, those that have already redeemed the code need to pay close attention, so they don’t accidentally permanently delete the open beta from their account.

To fix the matchmaking session failed error in Back 4 Blood:

  • Go to Steam Support and log in.
  • Choose “Games, Software, etc.,”
  • Search for “Back 4 Blood Beta” in the search box.

If you’ve already redeemed the code for the open beta, this is the part that requires close attention. If a player has the old alpha on their account, they’ll have to entries here:

  • Back 4 Blood Beta
  • Back 4 Blood Beta “Sneak Peek”

Make sure to select the one that says “Back 4 Blood Beta.”

  • On the next page choose, “I want to permanently remove this game from my account.”
  • Click, “Ok, remove the listed games from my account permanently.”

After this process is complete, players should be able to relaunch the Back 4 Blood open beta, and matchmaking should be completed successfully.
