Call of Duty: Vanguard Ping: Can you mark enemies?

After going hands-on with the Call of Duty: Vanguard alpha, many players are wondering about a spotting system to mark enemies and items. This helpful feature makes communicating with teammates quick and easy, both in previous CoD titles and other FPS games. But, is there a Call of Duty: Vanguard ping system? Here’s the need-to-know info on marking enemies to spot them on the in-game HUD for allied players.

Can you ping enemy players in Call of Duty: Vanguard?

Call of Duty Vanguard ping

Call of Duty: Vanguard does not feature a ping mechanic to mark enemies and items for teammates in-game. Warzone and Black Ops Cold War let players spot enemies, though CoD: Vanguard drops the series’ ping system.

Last weekend’s Call of Duty: Vanguard alpha test didn’t feature pinging, much to the disappointment of many players. It’s possible that a CoD: Vanguard ping system will be in the final version of the game (or the upcoming beta), though there’s been no confirmation yet. Hopefully, Sledgehammer Games and Activision will hear players’ pleas and implement a spotter mechanic before launch.

Apex Legends popularized the contextual ping system in 2019, with many games adopting it since. Amongst these are the previous two Call of Duty games — Warzone and Black Ops Cold War. The system allows users to communicate quickly and easily without the use of voice comms, making it especially useful for those who don’t enjoy conversing with strangers.

If there isn’t a Call of Duty: Vanguard ping mechanic at launch, it’s possible that one will arrive in a post-launch update or patch. That said, it could also be a design decision that Sledgehammer stands by. Sledgehammer Games’ previous Call of Duty franchise entries don’t feature ping mechanics, so the developer could omit marking opponents again.
