FFXIV Free Game Time: How to get more play time without paying

The latest FFXIV expansion is here, with fans flocking back to Square Enix’s Final Fantasy MMORPG. It’s so popular, in fact, that the servers temporarily went down over the weekend, causing some downtime. Players were unable to enjoy the game and their subscription money went to waste. As such, the topic of FFXIV free game time is now in discussion. With that in mind, here’s how to play more FFXIV without paying.

How to get free FFXIV game time

FFXIV subscribers can claim free game time as an apology for the weekend’s server downtime. Anyone with an active subscription, who has purchased the Endwalker expansion, can claim seven days’ worth of free game time.

Yes, it’s a generous goodwill gesture from Square Enix. This free game time was confirmed by the Game Director, Naoki Yoshida. In a post on the Final Fantasy website, he also confirms that players on a 30-day purchase trial could also enjoy this free play time. It comes into action on December 7, the day the Endwalker expansion officially launches worldwide.

Equally, Yoshida doesn’t rule out more free game time emerging in the future. “We may give additional free game time depending on further developments on the congestion situation,” he said. As such, it seems that these FFXIV server problems could continue into Endwalker’s launch. However, it’s good to know that players will be fairly compensated if that does happen.

Nonetheless, FFXIV players new and old alike will be glad to try out the game for free for that bit longer. It’s slightly less useful giving you can only play it having already purchased the base game and Endwalker, but it’s a sign of Square Enix listening to complaints and supporting players.
