Star Trek Discovery Season 5: Release date, when and how to watch

A Star Trek Discovery season 5 release date is already in the works. Season 4 saw Captain Michael Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery chasing down the origin of a massive gravitational anomaly, and they saved the galaxy for the fourth time. Fortunately, we likely won’t have to wait for their continued voyage, as season 5’s release date shouldn’t be too far out.

What is the release date of Star Trek Discovery Season 5?

We should see the fifth season of Star Trek Discovery release sometime between October and November 2022. The series did see a delay between the second and third seasons due to COVID-19, but production hasn’t deviated too far off schedule since then. Since there’s been no word of a break between seasons, we can assume that season 5 will start around the same time the fourth did.

We wouldn’t be surprised if the fifth season is the finale for the series, as only 10 episodes have been ordered compared to the 13 found in the second and third. After dealing with the fourth galaxy-threatening disaster, it’s impossible to raise the stakes at this point. The Discovery writers and showrunner Alex Kurtzman are obviously having issues figuring out what to do with the setting and characters and refuse to de-escalate the severity of the plot, which is evident in the strange dialog, relationships, and situations found in the show.

As for what season five will be about is anyone’s guess. We predict it will have a lot of inappropriate crying, needless personal drama, all against the background of the galaxy once again being at stake. Hopefully, we’ll see less of the crew being wet blankets and more of the professional officer corps we came to expect from Starfleet in previous series.

Where to watch season 5

In the United States, Star Trek Discovery Season 5 will be available on Paramount+. Elsewhere, it’s anyone’s guess. International audiences have had issues accessing new Star Trek content. If Paramount+ has launched in a territory, it can be found on that service. If not, it’s aired on Netflix and Pluto TV in the past.
