Futurama is back again, this time on Hulu. This third run of the show, which initially debuted in 1999 on Fox, will mark the first time one of its seasons premiered on a streaming service. Despite being critically acclaimed, Futurama has had a hard time staying on the air, but it might finally be finding a good home in its run on Hulu.
Many details are still in flux, but we’ll cover what we’ve heard about Futurama on Hulu’s release date. We’ll also take a look at which voice actors are coming back and any other tidbits we’ve found out so far.
Futurama on Hulu release date rumors
As with many shows in early production, the launch timing hasn’t been nailed down yet. However, Variety reports that Futurama on Hulu should get a release date sometime in 2023. Series creator Matt Groening has remained fully behind it through thick and thin, and he’s proven that he can deliver on time.
Which voice actors will be returning?

So far, the following cast members have been confirmed to be returning on Futurama on Hulu:
- David Herman: Many, Many Voices
- Maurice LaMarche: Many, Many Voices
- Phil LaMarr: Hermes Conrad
- Tress MacNeille: Linda
- Katey Segal: Turanga Leela
- Lauren Tom: Amy Wong
- Billy West: Philip J. Fry
The only major character that isn’t confirmed to return is John DiMaggio as Bender. However, both DiMaggio and the producers have expressed interest in his return. It isn’t known why he isn’t attached to the project yet, but he may be in contract negotiations. As the voice of one of the series’ most recognizable characters, it’s almost assured that he’ll join the cast, though.
How many episodes will there be?
So far, Hulu has ordered 20 episodes of Futurama. In response to the announcement Groening said:
“It’s a true honor to announce the triumphant return of ‘Futurama’ one more time before we get canceled abruptly again.”
Given Futurama’s turbulent production history, we can’t predict how long the show will last on Hulu. However, it’s always been a series with long tail appeal, which might mean it’s a perfect fit for streaming.
