Slime Rancher 2 launched into Early Access and Game Preview on September 22. The game promises a large world to explore and lots of slimes to collect, but does the game have a campaign? If Slime Rancher 2 does have a campaign, will players find some sort of “ending”? We’re here to answer all of the questions you might have about the content included in the Early Access form of the game.
Does Slime Rancher 2 have a campaign?
There is a campaign in Slime Rancher 2, although it is incomplete at the time of writing and there is no “ending” at the moment. The game is intended to “feel relatively whole and worth playing at any point in its development” but the world is currently incomplete and developer Monomi Park has intentions to add more features to the game before it is fully released. Right now, players will “discover a point in the world where the game will obviously be expanded” through future updates, and when these updates do happen, they will be a “seamless continuation” of the progress players have already made.
Slime Rancher 2 is a game that is designed “to be played as long as you like”. Designed to be an “intro point” into the game, the Early Access phase includes a large area to explore, plenty of slimes to collect and combine, and secrets to discover in Rainbow Island in addition to the aforementioned partial campaign. Even if players do hit the point where the world will be expanded, they can still develop their Conservatory further, build more gadgets, and hunt down all the treasure pods.
Future updates will add more features, slimes, new environments to explore, items and resources to collect, and gadgets to build. The story campaign will also come closer to completion as the game gets closer to full release. At the moment there are no release windows for any of these updates so the team is not pressured to complete them on any time scale. There is also no release date for Slime Rancher 2 version 1.0 to be released for the same reason.
