Hide Twitter Blue Checkmark: Can I Hide Being Verified on Twitter?

Twitter Blue users can’t hide their checkmarks currently, but the feature may appear in the future. Since Elon Musk introduced the option for Twitter users to pay $8 or $11 for a verified badge through a Twitter Blue subscription, the once-coveted blue checkmark has become a source of ridicule. As a result, Twitter Blue subscribers have faced trolling from both legacy verified and non-verified users. The situation has become so challenging that Twitter is considering allowing Blue subscribers to hide their badges.

Will Twitter Blue subscribers be able to hide their verified badge?

The function isn’t available yet, but app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi recently leaked a screenshot revealing that Twitter is testing a “show or hide the blue checkmark” feature in the verification settings for Twitter Blue users. This move might seem confusing at first, but it aligns with recent announcements from the company.

After Twitter made Twitter Blue available worldwide, Musk announced that legacy verified users would lose their verified account status starting April 1. However, it’s worth noting that as of April 5, previously verified users who were not subscribed to Twitter Blue haven’t lost their verification status. Instead, when a blue checkmark is clicked or tapped on a profile, it now displays the message, “This account is verified because it’s subscribed to Twitter Blue or is a legacy verified account.”

Twitter Blue was introduced as a subscription revenue model to offset the loss of advertisers after Musk took charge. Despite its modest success, the platform still struggles with ad revenue. It remains to be seen if removing legacy verification badges will increase Twitter Blue subscriptions or simply boost the popularity of the “this mf paid for Twitter” meme.
