Baldur's Gate 3 Scuffed Rock How to Move Push Away

Baldur’s Gate 3 Scuffed Rock: How to Move & Push It Away

A Baldur’s Gate 3 scuffed rock can be found close to the where the nautiloid ship crashes, but it can be confusing to figure out how to move it. Clicking on it doesn’t seem to anything, and you can’t use Mage Hand to push it away. The game also doesn’t really explain how to move things very well, or at least it’s very easy to miss that tutorial among all of the other mechanics you have to learn. The annoying part is that the rock hides a chest beneath it that has some strong items for the early game. Here’s how to move the scuffed rock near the beach in BG3.

How to move Baldur’s Gate 3 scuffed rock

To move the scuffed rock at the reach to the side, you first need one of your party members to succeed a Perception check on the rock and have one with sufficient strength to move it.

The Perception or Nature check for a character to notice that the scuffed rock is hiding something underneath is fairly easy to pass. Moving the boulder, however, is another matter. You need to select a character with a high enough Strength stat, then take the mouse, click on the rock and literally move it to another location.

We were able to move the scuffed rock using Shadowheart, who only has 13 Strength, while we couldn’t move it with our avatar who only had 10 Strength. So as far as early companions go, you can have either Shadowheart or the githyanki Lae’zel shift the boulder over. If you don’t have Lae’zel in the party yet, you’ll find her trapped a little further on while exploring the area around the crashed ship.

The ornate chest beneath the rock holds several treasures, including Potion of Speed x2,, Harper’s Notebook, Harper’s Map, Ruby, Agate, and 16 Gold. These rewards may vary slightly depending on your playthrough.
