Starfield Resource Storage Where to Store Resources

Starfield Resource Storage: Where to Store Resources

The best Starfield resource storage is not obvious when you start the game, so it may be confusing where to store resources. You’ll collect a lot of resources in your few missions through mining ore with the cutter and sifting through the pirate base on Kreet. The tutorials hint that there are ways to manage your inventory, but there are multiple places where you can store exotic and unique resources. Either way, you’ll want a specific place to gather all of your minerals and materials so that you can easily access them while crafting, without having them bog down your personal inventory space. Here are some tips on where to store resources in Starfield.

Where to store resources in Starfield

The following are the best places to store resources while you journey through the stars:

  • Ship’s Cargo Hold: The default place you should be storing resources is your ship’s cargo hold. You can access it in the ship section of the menu, but you’ll need to be on your ship (that is, actually in it and not around it) to transfer items and resources between the cargo hold and your inventory. Note the Cargo Capacity stat of your ship (like the Marathon in the picture above) to find out the maximum amount of storage it can carry.
  • Lodge Safe: Any items you place in the safe back in your room at The Lodge in Constellation’s headquarters or in your home (like your Dream Home, for instance) is also a good place to store resources without having to worry about maximum space. We recommend placing exotic and unique resources here since you won’t be using them very often apart from crafting, which you’ll likely be doing at The Lodge anyway.

That said, your ship’s Cargo Hold is one of the default places where the game will pull resources from while you’re crafting at a research station, building objects for an outpost, or creating decorations for your house. The game will automatically search through your personal inventory and your home ship’s storage for resources.

You can expand your Cargo Hold by either getting a better ship or upgrading your existing ship, though you’ll likely need more power to handle the extra cargo ship parts. Just note that you can’t take any resources with you into new game plus, so keep that in mind if you’re interested in finishing the game quickly.

Starfield Resource Storage FAQ

Q: Where are the best places to store my collected resources in Starfield?

A: The optimal spots for resource storage in Starfield are your ship’s Cargo Hold and the Lodge Safe in your room at The Lodge in Constellation’s headquarters or in your personal home, like the Dream Home. While the Cargo Hold requires you to be on your ship to transfer items, the Lodge Safe is ideal for stowing away exotic and unique resources that aren’t frequently used.

Q: How can the game access my stored resources when I’m crafting or building?

A: When you’re crafting at a research station, constructing items for outposts, or designing decorations for your home, the game will automatically pull resources from both your personal inventory and your ship’s Cargo Hold. You don’t need to manually retrieve them.

Q: Can I expand my ship’s Cargo Hold capacity?

A: Yes, you can increase your Cargo Hold’s storage by either acquiring a better ship or upgrading your current one. However, be aware that enhancements might demand more power for the added cargo ship parts. Also, remember that resources cannot be carried into a new game plus, so consider this if you plan to complete the game rapidly.
