Pokimane recently launched the health-conscious Myna Snack brand. The smallest order you can make of its first product, Midnight Mini Cookies, is $28 for a four-pack of 4 oz. (114 g) bags. At $7 a bag, these cookies are definitely on the expensive side.
However, most of the criticism stems from allegations that Myna may be purchasing white-label cookies from a third party and marking them up. Skeptics pointed toward a Midnight Mini cookie brand from Toatzy that was sold at Cosco earlier this year and looks incredibly similar to what Myna is offering at a much cheaper price. In response to the criticism, Myna released a statement saying the cookies aren’t white-label and that over two years were spent developing them.
Why is Pokimane being “canceled?”
In response to complaints about the price of the Pokimane cookies, she made the following statement in her November 18 stream:
“When people are like ‘oh my god, $28 for cookies’. It’s four bags, that’s $7 per bag. I know, I know math is hard when you’re an idiot. But, if you’re a broke boy, just say so.”
Of course, with rampant inflation leaving many households living paycheck to paycheck, her comment came off as arrogant and tone-deaf.
She attempted to play the comment off as a joke in an apology the next day:
