Island life in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is more fun with friends. That’s why players are rushing to add all their buddies and invite them over for some good old-fashioned exploration and crafting. But wait, what’s this option to invite a Best Friend? What are Best Friends in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and how are they different from normal friends? Read our guide to find out.
What are Best Friends? | Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Best Friends in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are players that you’ve added to your in-game friends list. They are not to be confused with standard friends, which are other players you’ve added to your Nintendo Switch friend list.
That’s really all there is to it: Friends are Nintendo Switch friends, while Best Friends are fellow Animal Crossing: New Horizons players.
How are Best Friends different?
All semantics aside, the main difference between Friends and Best Friends are that Best Friends can use destructive tools on your island. Normal Friends can be invited to your island for general gameplay, but they won’t be able to make any real modifications. On the other hand, Best Friends can use tools such as shovels or axes to fell trees or till soil for new plants.
The other difference between Friends and Best Friends comes down to how they’re added. Regular Friends can be added from any game using the usual method on Nintendo Switch: Friend codes. Best Friends, however, must have played with you before, and must be unlocked through the Best-Friends List app on the in-game phone.
Once added, Best Friends can be invited to your island by heading over to Dodo Airlines and putting in a request to have someone visit. It’s also here that you can limit which players have access to your island, including all friends, only friends, only Best Friends, and open to everyone.
Best Friends in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are exactly what they sound like: Friends, but better. They’ll get exclusive access to modify your island and will be open to communication through the NookPhone’s chat app. The only catch is that you have play with them at least once before they can be added to your list of trusted companions.
