Rayman: Origins Gamescom Trailer Is Too Pretty, Can’t Look Away

Listen, I know some of you may have not "gotten" it when Kirby's Epic Yarn was being praised for its graphics. I understand. Some of us are fanboys, graphics whores, polygon counters… you know… the scum of the internet. So here, I'm going to try to explain things to those of you who just don't get it.

Rayman: Origins, the 2D platformer from Ubisoft, is beautiful. No, it doesn't look ultra-realistic. No, it's not running on CryEngine 3 or Unreal 4 or whatever. It's not even a matter of polygons and the like. Rayman: Origins is composed of sprites.

Delicate, little, dainty sprites, hand-drawn with love, and warmth, and color. Thank you, Ubisoft, for understanding that graphics aren't all about horse power and chipsets. Thank you for knowing that graphics are about the art, the visuals, and aesthetic of the game.
