The death of Silent Hills has brought despair upon the industry this week. Horror fans have been devastated by the news that the most promising upcoming game in the genre was dealt a killing blow by Konami. But at least we're still left with P.T., a masterpiece in and of itself.
It may appear that Silent Hills' death came much earlier than we were led to believe, though. Rumors are floating around as the result of some cryptic audio played in the game that may mean more than what was initially believed.
Throughout P.T. there are several references to a family murder. Disturbing voicemails play featuring the voice of a woman who appears to be talking about a homicide, and upon completion a trailer plays with the following audio:
While it might not seem like much, some are already interpreting it as the family killing being Konami's internal strife, and more specifically its letting go of industry veteran Hideo Kojima. "But then one day, he goes and kills us all!" certainly raises an eyebrow, but could simply be coincidental.
The good thing to take out of this is that if these words were chosen specifically for the situation, the sentence "I will be coming back, and I'm bringing my new toys with me" sounds like it's been left by Hideo Kojima, leading us to believe that he will find a way to continue development of the title. It'll just have to assume a new identity since Konami owns the Silent Hill IP.
