Update: Xbox Head Phil Spencer has shot down the rumor with the following Tweet:
Silent Hills is still dead.
Original Post: I've seen a lot of rumors in my day; some big, and some small. Some unbelievable from unknown sources, and some from sources that make me a believer. Today's rumor regarding Silent Hills is one of the biggest I've seen, and has me conflicted.
The story, as reported by Rooster Teeth, is that Microsoft has met with Konami to buy Silent Hills. As you might have guessed, this would turn Silent Hills from a canceled game to a living one exclusive to Xbox One and potentially PC.
The source is one that has a history of being accurate, which has resulted in me scratching my head when I heard that Silent Hills is supposedly "80% complete". During the day that the game was canceled, Guillermo Del Toro certainly made it sound like the game wasn't even close to being completed.
The deal is said to involve "billions of dollars". That might sound ludicrous, but given how widespread discussion was about Silent Hills during its announcement and eventual cancelation, it might just be the most well-placed billion dollars that that the Xbox brand could spend right now.
Judging by all the information presented, if this deal is real, then we're going to hear about it during Microsoft's E3 2015 Press Conference. That's less than three weeks away, and at this juncture things could go either way. I've never been one to be overcome with joy when Sony or Microsoft "steal" exclusives, but the fact that this would keep alive the dream of what was previously one of my top 5 most anticipated games, I can't help but hope that this rumor is true.
