Nolan North Says 8 Months of Uncharted 4 Script Was Scrapped, Visceral Star Wars Game Is Like Uncharted

Speaking at his own panel at MetroCon 2015, Nathan Drake voice actor Nolan North shared information he knows about both Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Visceral Games' upcoming Star Wars game.

Asked by an attendee how ex-Naughty Dog writer Amy Hennig's departure affected Uncharted 4's development, North replied:

We had shot eight months of her story and it was all thrown away. The Last of Us guys came in, and you have to understand, new producer, new people, they want to do it [their own way]. I don't know what happened exactly. Amy is still a dear friend of mine. She's brilliant. But The Last of Us guys were the next team there, so they took over, and just wanted their own flavor. They got rid of some of the other people involved and redid the thing.

Hearing about how much the team from The Last of Us has altered the design of the story, which is said to conclude Nathan Drake's timeline, I get the feeling that Uncharted 4 will have a dark tone. The Uncharted series has always been playful, sometimes even cartoon-ish, in nature, but it appears that this game is going to change that one way or another.

North continued:

It'll be fun, it's going to be a good [game]. The tone, I think, is going to be slightly different. It has to be. It's like you can't have a Robert Ludlum novel be the same as Stephen King. it's just they're different styles. But it's true to the story. It's going to be along the same lines of the story. I don't know how it'll affect the whole thing. To be honest I'm just as curious as everyone to see what the final product will look like.

After talking about Uncharted 4 North was asked about Visceral's upcoming Star Wars title. He similarly couldn't say much about it, but just enough to offer insight into the direction of the game. He shared:

If you're a big fan of Amy Hennig with her styles of stories, the big thing bout her is that she's gone to EA and is going to reboot a brand new Star Wars franchise in the style of Uncharted and I happen to know a lot about it and it's gonna be awesome.

Visceral's Star Wars game hasn't been unveiled, but is confirmed to be in development. North made it a point to state that it isn't Star Wars 1313. Based on what he shared, you can expect a very story-driven experience with third-person action gameplay.

You can listen to North discuss both games in the source video below at 18 minutes in.
