Remember Goosebumps? I do. I had about four of these books (not sure what happened to them, mom) and while many of them were fairly straightforward ordeals, I was fascinated by the choose-your-own-adventure books where you can decide between two options at the end of a section and flip to the appropriate page. It's actually more complicated than some video games nowadays.
Not sure what took so long, but WayForward finally had the fine idea of publishing GameMill Entertainment's version of Goosebumps: The Game, which has appeared in the Xbox Live Store. And with a quick glance at the seven screenshots available, it looks to take that choose-your-own-adventure concept and run with it.
According to the game's description, your character finds that your neighborhood has been overrun by monsters after walking home from school:
Werewolves prowl the woods, Gnomes roam underfoot, and scarecrows walk at midnight. But these aren’t ordinary monsters—they’re R.L. Stine’s famous Goosebumps monsters, released from their books and looking to wreak havoc! You’ll need to use your wits to investigate the surroundings, puzzle out clues, and outsmart the monsters before it’s too late! Survive a trek through your neighborhood, unravel the mysteries of the Dead House, and sneak through the mall after hours; only then can you confront Slappy and stop his plans for revenge! Players beware.
The major reason for this game releasing now becomes apparent in the last line of the description:
Players beware… you’re in for a scare in the exciting Goosebumps video game, a prequel to the major motion picture in theaters October 16th!
Well, better late than never. Boo!
