The Maono PD200W microphone looks to push the envelope in a big way by giving creators the ability to connect via USB-C, XLR, or wirelessly. It’s rare to see desktop dynamic microphones doing this, especially for $129.99. On paper, this enhanced flexibility sounds brilliant, but how does it fare during real-world testing? Here is my review.
Three ways to connect
As mentioned in the intro, the headline feature of the PD200W is its three connectivity modes. It supports 2.4 GHz, USB-C, and XLR. When connected, the 30mm dynamic capsule comes to life, with a focused capture intended to hone in on the user’s voice while rejecting background noise.
The microphone itself feels good for the price, boasting control knobs that feel solid and tactile. Users can control gain, monitoring volume, mute, and more directly on the mic. The Maono Link app can then be used for further personalization, with EQ and other enhancements available. While I do recommend tuning to the user’s voice, I found the stock sound was suitably broadcast-like for my deeper male voice.
The RGB lighting can be customized within the app, too. I’m a fan of the lighting and I think it will help give livestreamers or video podcasters an additional bit of flair.
It shines in tough conditions

The PD200W shines brightest in tough recording scenarios where it can be difficult to get cables connected and/or control background noise. Being able to get broadcast-quality sound wirelessly, while the dynamic nature of the mic rejects background noise, is particularly impressive. For those with more chaotic workflows, who demand versatility from their equipment, Maono may well have the mic for you.
However, even if you just plan to use the PD200W plugged into your PC at home, with no plans to ever record in a super challenging environment, this mic can still deliver that broadcast-level sound.
Wireless is promising, but has limitations

When it comes to downsides, the main hiccup I experienced with the PD200W was when using the wireless mode. I found that I had to be very careful about where I placed the device I was recording to, ensuring that the mic and the receiver had nothing between them and that the distance between them wasn’t too far.
Once you get used to the limitation, it’s fine, but worth mentioning for those who had been planning to use the microphone far away from the receiver or behind a number of objects.

Final Verdict
At $129.99 — though currently available for $99.99 using a voucher — the Maono PD200W presents a strong overall value. Its flexible connectivity and solid audio performance make it a capable option for a variety of recording setups. While not without minor compromises, it delivers enough versatility and quality to appeal to a broad range of creators.
