Dark Souls III Features Revealed

The next cover story for Game Informer is Dark Souls III, which means plenty of new details about the game will be revealed in the coming weeks. The site kicked things off this week with a list of returning features in the upcoming RPG.

Perhaps the most noteworthy mechanic is fast travel between bonfires, which will be unlocked at the beginning of the game just like Dark Souls II. Apparently director Hidetaka Miyazaki appreciated the convenience of that system in the sequel, so it returns for the third game.

New Game+ also bears similarities to Dark Souls II in that enemies locations and items placements will change in new playthroughs. One of the most exciting aspects of the Souls series is that it always keeps players guessing, so it's good to know that the same will hold true the second, third, or fourth time around.

Other returning features include the ability to respec characters, illusory walls, durability which will strike a balance in between the first two games, and summoning/invasions. The multiplayer modes act like the previous two entries in the series, with the exception of items. Players will be able to use consumable items during invasions.

Magic also appears in Dark Souls III, though that's the topic of another Game Informer article. In any event, it sounds like Dark Souls III will be a great addition to the already-fantastic RPG series.

Dark Souls III is scheduled to come out in early 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
