Notorious Game Pirate Warns Imminent Death of Game Piracy As Encryption Succeeds

Big strides have been made by game publishers to quell piracy during the past few years, and they're

only getting better at it. Most recently, Denuvo's anti-tamper technology has made pirating of games an absolute nightmare for those used to easily ripping and throwing them online for thousands of others to download at no cost.

3DM is a popular Chinese forum that features a lot of discussion about piracy, and anti-piracy is commonly brought up in discussions. Its founder, 'Bird Sister', has posted a detailed thread describing frustration in the community regarding pirating the recently released Just Cause 3, a game that features the latest and most secure implementation of Denuvo.

Frustration has become an increasingly common sentiment among pirates, and Bird Sister expects things to only become more difficult in the future, sharing:

I still believe that this game can be compromised. But according to current trends in the development of encryption technology, in two years time I’m afraid there will be no free games to play in the world.

Denuvo has become an attractive option for publishers due to its 64-bit encryption machine that is remarkably difficult to crack. While it isn't impossible to overcome, it has successfully halted the efforts of hundreds of pirates, and resulted in games appearing on torrent sites weeks after launch rather than immediately.

It's a turn of events that plays into favor of publishers who have been hit extremely hard by piracy during the past decade. It's a problem that has re-shaped the industry as we know it, promoting micro-transactions and DRM in more games than not.
