Dark Souls III Getting First Expansion in Ashes of Ariandel

Bandai Namco has revealed that Ashes of Ariandel will be the first of two planned downloadable expansions for Dark Souls III, and will be a part of the game's season pass.

Ariandel is a frozen land with new weapons, armor, and magic to uncover. As the screenshots show, the environment will have precarious rope bridges, forests will be filled with a snowy mist, and enemies that can taken out with new ice and light-based magic. You will encounter a new NPC named Yupa, a red-hooded figure holding a fragment of some kind, and there will be a new area specific for PvP.

The announcement trailer above shows off a character that seems to be hurting itself above a bowl of water. Packs of wolves will surround you in the forest while armored paladins will cast ground spells that will stagger you. There are a few bosses near the end of the trailer that seem to harken back to other bosses in the main game… not sure what that's about.

Ashes of Ariandel will release on October 25, 2016 on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam.
