Mario Finally Arrives on iOS With Super Mario Run

Finally, Mario will be arriving on mobile!

On stage at Apple's press event in San Francisco, Shigeru Miyamoto presented the new title, Super Mario Run, which will arrive on Apple's iOS app store for the holiday season.

Super Mario Run will feature Mario in a side-scrolling runner, a genre that's extremely popular on mobile, along with a Toad Rally mode where players compete for the highest score. The game screenshots has Mario collecting coins, flipping off blocks, hitting goombas, and reaching the flag at the end, all while using the bright color palette of the New Super Bros. series.

In the short gameplay demo of Super Mario Run, Mario will jump by tapping the screen, with a longer jump the longer you hold the tap. As Miyamoto explains, you can play the game one-handed so that you can play it "while holding onto a handle in the subway, while eating a hamburger, or while eating an apple."

Better yet, the game will have a fixed price and not have any microtransactions, a promise that we hope Nintendo keeps.

Given that the game was presented on the Apple stage, Super Mario Run will likely skip the Android platform, but it could be ported over if the game succeeds on iOS.
