Here’s Why iOS 26.1 May Drain iPhone Batteries Faster

Following the highly anticipated iOS 26 update, which introduced the world to the Liquid Glass feature, Apple has launched a follow-up update, iOS 26.1, that not only adds new settings to your iPhone but also includes a useful security feature. The update also comes with an issue that could cause the iPhone to lose battery percentage faster than its usual rate. Nevertheless, the technology giant has cited a reason behind this issue.

Reason why iOS 26.1 drains battery

On Monday, November 3, Apple launched the iOS 26.1 update, which introduced as many as 11 new features to the iPhone. However, many users have complained of experiencing extreme battery drainage after installing the new release.

According to Apple’s official memo regarding software updates, this is a natural occurrence rather than a new bug. The briefing states that after an iPhone user installs a release, especially a major update, they may encounter temporary battery life and thermal performance issues. This is because the device requires some time to complete the setup process, which happens silently in the background. The encapsulated processes include indexing data and files for search, downloading new assets, and updating applications.

As such, until the procedure reaches completion, users may find that their iPhones have started to drain their battery or heat up at a faster rate. Additionally, the intensity of these issues will vary drastically depending on individual usage.

Therefore, according to Apple’s statement, the battery-draining issue is not specific to the iOS 26.1 update, but rather occurs after the installation of every update, particularly major releases.

As far as the iOS 26.1 update is concerned, installing it will allow iPhone users to customize the Liquid Glass design to a greater extent. The update also includes numerous features that enhance the camera, security, haptics, alarm, accessibility, translation, Apple Intelligence, and other settings in the device.
