Gabe Newell Is Now Worth More Than Donald Trump

Donald Trump has gained widepread attention during his time in politics, but most of his life has been focused on business. His real estate empire has grown to enormous proportions with skyscrapers in New York, Chicago, Toronto, and more than six other locations.

He has made it a point to flaunt his wealth from time to time. When he has, a $10 billion figure is commonly brought up. Though, best estimates by Forbes and Google currently place him at $3.7 billion, making him one of the wealthiest people on the planet.

Although similarly a businessman, Gabe Newell is a person of much different character. Known for being mild-mannered and a tech-guru, he has experienced monumental success of his own without arousing much suspicion. His talents in computer science have made him one of the most revered video game developers of all-time.

As president of Valve Corporation, Newell has amassed tremendous wealth. His latest estimated net worth is $4.1 billion, ranking him even higher than Trump.

Newell and Valve's net worth have skyrocketed in recent years with the rising popularity of its Steam platform where it charges developers a fee to publish games and software. It has also made a fortune on microtransactions in games such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2.

Newell got his start in programming at Microsoft in 1983 after dropping out of Harvard. He would work there until 1996 when he founded Valve L.L.C. alongside Mike Harrington.
