Resident Evil 7’s Game Length Revealed

Resident Evil 7 is just around the corner. To many it'll be the first AAA experience of 2017. Naturally, many are hoping that it'll be a substantially long experience, enough to last into February. But is it?

Resident Evil 7 is said to take around 15 hours to complete for the average player. This makes it longer than most single-player games this generation, many of which have fallen within the 8 to 12 hour mark.

According to HowLongToBeat.com, these are the average game lengths of prior Resident Evil games:

  • Resident Evil – 7 hours
  • Resident Evil 2 – 6 hours
  • Resident Evil 3 – 7 hours
  • Resident Evil 4 – 16 hours
  • Resident Evil 5 – 12 hours
  • Resident Evil 6 – 22 hours

Though a good length, this does raise some questions as to whether or not Resident Evil 7 has good enough pacing to remain interesting for the full duration. Many non-RPGs, especially horror games, have a tendency to feel like their length has been artificially buffered with uninteresting content just for the sake of being longer, most comparably the 2014 release Alien: Isolation.

Nonetheless, early impressions of Resident Evil 7 have been very positive, including those coming from a demo that is currently available on all platforms.

Resident Evil 7 will launch on January 24th.
