Best Remake 2011

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

Platform: Nintendo 3DS

Publisher: Nintendo

Developer(s): Nintendo EAD, Grezzo

With the abundance of HD remakes this year, this was a tougher category than we anticipated—ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection and God of War Origins brought a bunch of great games to the masses who didn’t get a chance to play them before, while Metal Gear Solid HD Collection introduced us to a new and improved Peace Walker which finally got the release on consoles that it always deserved.

But there’s not a whole lot you can do to dethrone Ocarina of Time, unless you’re Nintendo and just decide to one-up yourselves with another Zelda game like the honey badgers you are. OoT 3D struck a perfect balance between enhancing the original game with subtle changes without doing too much so as to make sure the magic stayed intact. And with a new iteration of the Master Quest that mirrors the entire game, even veterans got to experience Hyrule in a different way.

Runners Up:

  • ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection
  • Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
  • God of War: Origins Collection
  • Starfox 64 3D
