Today’s Twisted Metal Update Stabilizes Online And Adds Skin Editor

While this year's Twisted Metal has been a fantastic trip down memory lane so far, not everything has been warm and fuzzy. Online play and matchmaking in particular have been a train wreck, and you're probably dying to hear when the game will play as advertised. Don't fret, because your cure is almost here.

David Jaffe tweeted the following at 11:50am today:

It looks like they’ve solved all (or at least a very big portion) of the matchmaking issues with Twisted Metal. I’ll explain best I can in my layman’s terms: quick online and select a match are pulling from the same pool. So if you are browsing, by the time you pick a game none of those players are available anymore. You only get in a game really if you get into quick match. At least I was told this (although I know some players have struggled to get into a fast match as well). Either way, progress! They say they expect to have a fix deployed in a few hours. I will keep you informed. Also, looking into the crash issue- will do my best to get some feedback on that sometime today.

David Jaffe has expressed a deep amount of dissatisfaction with how online stability has been so far for Twisted Metal. Matchmaking typically ends in a network error, and if you join a room that is full you'll be shown the incorrect error, resulting in you yelling at the wrong thing. It's frustrating, but the wait will be worth it if single-player is any indication of how fun it is to blow your friends up.

While fixing online is important to everyone, the skin editor advertised before release has been in high demand. Apparently, that has a good chance of going live today as well. David Jaffe posted:

They THINK skin editor will be up today. Let you know the instant it is.

How about that? Not only will you finally be able to play with your friends without pulling hair out, but you can throw a decal of your cat on the side of Sweet Tooth's ice cream truck. Color me excited! If you're wondering what the skin editor is all about, Jaffe posted a detailed introduction video that'll rock your socks. Check it out here.
