PlayStation Vita Hits 1.2 Million Units Sold Worldwide

After a strong initial sales surge in Asia, the PlayStation Vita took a backseat to the Nintendo 3DS and its Monster Hunter game. But after an extremely strong launch in Western markets, the PlayStation Vita has reached a respectable 1.2 million units sold.

On top of the hardware numbers, Sony has revealed that 2 million units of software have been sold between retail and the digitially available titles on the PlayStation Store.

If you've been listening to GameRevolution Radio, you'd know that the GR staff is smitten by Sony's new device. I've even predicted it to be the "next big thing", having potential to reach PS2-level sales figures. While these initial numbers are indeed a good sign, it will be years–and a significant price drop–before the Vita reaches mass market appeal.

Tell GR: Have you picked up a PlayStation Vita?
