Michael Pachter Believes Wii U Needs To Sell At $250 To Be Viable

Michael Pachter has never been one to hold back what he thinks. And the analyst has once again told the world what he thinks, and that is he doesn't see a bright future for Nintendo and the Wii U. He even went as far as to say that "Nintendo's in disarray."

He further went on to say that Nintendo "has to" price the Wii U at $250 to be viable.

"I think the idea that we don't know the price point yet, but we do know what the console is, is just sad," he said. "I think they've completely blown that. It's gonna launch at $249, because it has to. They're dead if they launch at $259. I think they're toast then. I think they're toast anyway."

Why $250? Pachter believes that the Xbox/Kinect bundle will be less than $250 by the time that Wii U releases. Mind you, there has been no word on a Kinect bundle price cut. If the Wii U really isn't as big of a threat as Pachter says, it's doubtful Microsoft will cut the price even more.

The reason why he doesn't believe that the Wii U will be a threat to the Kinect is because the market for the Wii U is only half the size of the Wii's market. Casual gamers will most likely not be interested in spending more money on a new console for starters, and secondly, it's been shown that many casual gamers have moved on to iOS, Android, and Facebook for their gaming, including family gaming.

I usually don't agree with Pachter, but he has a point about the Wii U's market size. I think that tapping into the casual market is a ship that has along sailed. We all saw crazy success for the Wii with casual gamers. It's doubtful that anyone will be able to recreate that.

What do you think? He has a point or he's full of crap?
