Alan Wake Sails Past Two Million Units Sold

When Alan Wake was announced back in 2005, and for several years afterward, it was marketed as a game for PCs and consoles. However, when it finally released five years later the PC version was nowhere to be seen. That isn't the first time that a multi-platform game's PC version has been neglected, but hopefully it's the last now that it's proven itself worthy.

Remedy Entertainment's Oskari Hakkinen has confirmed that Alan Wake has now passed the milestone of two million copies sold. What makes this especially interesting is that the Xbox 360 version only had a total of around 1.2 million sales toward the end of last year. Now, unless several hundred thousand Xbox gamers decided out of nowhere to jump out of their bean bags and go buy a two year old game, the PC version has nearly doubled the sales of the franchise in just one month. For a company that was extremely hesitant to even release a PC version due to a fear of piracy, this comes as nothing less than a monstrous surprise.

Since the PC version of Alan Wake just released four weeks ago, and its pricing is stil in the mid to upper-tier, it's safe to say that the game will have long legs moving forward. More importantly, this could prompt Remedy Entertainment to consider releasing Alan Wake's American Nightmare, a game that is currently Xbox Live exclusive, on PCs. Moreover, PC gaming is far from dead and other development studios should take note.
