AC3 Creative Director Attempts To Apologize For Dismissing Gamers’ Setting Ideas As “Boring”

Before Ubisoft announced that Assassin's Creed 3 would be set during the American Revolution, gamers all over the net were speculating where and when the game would take place. The game's creative director, Alex Hutchinson recently discussed a number of these ideas, casting them aside as uninspired and downright boring.

I see how it is Mr. Hutchinson. Everyone's got an opinion, but they all suck unless it's yours.

In a recent interview, the creative director went so far as to say that "people on the internet suggest the most boring settings. The three most wanted are WWII, feudal Japan and Egypt. They’re kind of the three worst settings for an AC game."

Ouch man, that really hurts. I'd hate to hear what you might say about some of my ideas.

Not long after did Joystiq meet up with Hutchinson at PAX to inquire further about his comments, to which he clarified by offering a slightly wishy-washy response. "It's part of a bigger discussion. Obviously any setting is potentially awesome." He went on to add that "the point we were making was that some settings are more familiar in video games than other settings. And the two particular ones that were mentioned are very familiar video game settings."

Ah, I see, so "familiar" equates to "boring" and "worst". It's all clear now.

The creative director then went on to attempt to offer an apology, saying, "If people think they have the worst ideas, I apologize for that. But really, they're very predictable. The internet is not the place for insight, unfortunately." Make of it what you will.
