Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition Is A Lazy Port

Bad news for anyone waiting for the PC version of Dark Souls thinking it'll be the superior version. Your assumption couldn't be further from the truth.

According to Eurogamer, the Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition isn't going to stray far from its console heritage. Although framerate dips in areas such as Blight Town will be muffled by superior PC hardware, the framerate will be capped at 30. Similarly, the framebuffer will be locked at 720p regardless of what resolution the game is played at.

The end result is a lazy console port that does little to seperate itself from Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 iterations we saw last year. Sure, it'll include a few new bosses, areas, and equipment, but it's also coming out a full year later with a $39.99 price tag when the original version can be found for around $19.99 – $24.99.

Even though I own the PS3 version of Dark Souls I was thinking about getting Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition. I stopped playing in Blight Town due to the jarring framerate which made an already challenging game mind-numbingly difficult, and I was hoping the PC version would give me a reason to go back and beat it. Now that's not even an option. If the developer isn't going to put in the effort, why should I?
