Boston Uprising Reveals Team Colors

Overwatch, Blizzard’s 2016 multiplayer first-person shooter, has a new team hitting its competitive scene and they’re repping Massachusetts. The Boston Uprising have recently revealed their team name and colors, which hold symbolic significance to both the players on the team as well as to the citizens of the history-rich city they hail from.

According to the team’s official website, their name was selected “to represent the resilience of the region’s revolutionary forefathers, whose indomitable legacy laid the foundation for the great city of Boston”. This makes sense as Boston was key to the victory of the colonies in the American Revolutionary War. The name calls to mind famous historical events such as the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, and the 1689 Boston Revolt. The infamous rebel group known as The Sons of Liberty originated in and worked out of Boston along with their patriot leader Samuel Adams and the well-known Liberty Tree elm as well. The newly-formed colonial militia fought an early battle at Bunker Hill while being led by future first president George Washington just outside of Boston, and though it is said that the British forces technically won, they took heavy casualties in the process and were forced to see the colonists as a threat that could not be taken lightly. Clearly, the Uprising has picked a name that carries a hefty historical weight along with it.

Fittingly then, their symbol is a “protective shield encompassing an emboldened letter B which “has become synonymous with the city”. This interplay of symbolism and language implies both strong defensive and offensive capabilities in equal measure. This is appropriate because the ability to attack and defend are both relevant to actual uprisings and e-sports alike. The shield also appears on their Coat of Arms and the official Seal of Massachusetts.

The colors chosen for the Boston Uprising team are blue, yellow, and black, with the blue and yellow tones “representing the colors of Boston’s official flag”. To go along with this reveal and the Valiant Mercy skin, the playable character Soldier 76 is being given a skin that matches with the team colors of the Boston Uprising so that fans of that team or players who just plain like the colors may gleefully destroy enemies while wearing them to their heart’s content.

In addition, the team’s roster includes:

  • Kwon “Striker” Nam-Joo – DPS
  • Stanislav “Mistakes” Danilov – DPS
  • Jonathan “DreamKazper” Sanchez – DPS
  • Noh “Gamsu” Yeong-jin – Tank
  • Lucas “NotE” Meissner – Tank
  • Shin “Kalios” Woo-yeol – Flex
  • Mikias “Snow” Yohannes – Flex Support
  • Kristian “Kellex” Keller – Support

Coaching Staff:

  • Park “Crusty” DaHee – Head Coach
  • Jack “Shake” Kaplan – Assistant Coach
  • Rollon “Mini” Haemlin – Assistant Coach
  • Mohid “Mr. Bleeple” Asjid – Analyst

The Boston Uprising will certainly be a name to look out for as the competition heats up in the Overwatch League. New York, Miami, and Houston are all rumored to be set to announce their own Overwatch teams soon as the game grows in popularity and fan support. More news will follow as teams are officially revealed and anticipation builds in Overwatch‘s competitive scene.
