The Octopath Traveler release date was revealed at today’s Nintendo Direct alongside two new jobs and the stunning collector’s edition of the game. Octopath Traveler is one of the most anticipated titles announced for the Nintendo Switch, and until now fans had no idea when it would be released. Fortunately, it’s going to be sooner rather than later.
Two new characters were revealed today out of the eight that will make up the cast of the game. Tressa the merchant and Alfyn the apothecary will be two of the characters you can take the role of during the game, and look to have some unique powers that set them apart from the heroes we’ve seen so far.
Tressa has a unique ability (called a Path Action in-game) called Purchase. Using Purchase, Tressa can buy items from villagers that other heroes don’t have access to. Tressa dreams of seeing the world.
Alfyn, the apothecary, is on a journey to heal the sick of the world. His Path Action, Inquire, gives you access to information about the people and places of Octopath Traveler that no other hero can find out.
We also learned that heroes can add a new class in addition to their base job. This is similar to what we’ve seen in games like Final Fantasy Tactics in the past and is sure to add a lot of customization and strategy options to the game.
The Octopath Traveler Traveler’s Compendium Collector’s Edition will release the same day as the base game and features some cool goodies. You’ll get a replica of a Leaf Coin which is the currency of Orsterra, a double-sided world map of Orsterra; an 8-Page pop-up book featuring each of the heroes which can also hold the other items, and the game card with case.
I’m hyped to play Octopath Traveler, and fortunately, we don’t have long to wait. The game comes out worldwide on July 13, 2018.
