Dead or Alive 6 was one of the surprise announcements of the E3 season and as promised Koei Tecmo has unveiled more information on the new game with the launch of its official website. There’s a whole lot of information on the website including new details on some of its mechanics, characters, and stages.
The official website teases a bit of the game’s story so far and mentions some of the characters that are returning to the new game including Kasumi and Helena. Another element returning for the new game is the series’ signature Triangle System. The system basically features three movement types – Strikes, Throws, and Holds – with each type holding dominance or priority over one other. In this case, strikes will always beat throws, throws will always beat holds, and holds will take priority over strikes. When two players launch moves of different types, the dominant one will always be the one to successfully land. The winning move will also be converted to a Hi Counter attack that does more damage.
Aside from the Triangle System, Dead or Alive 6 will be introducing a few new mechanics to the series including the new Break Gauge System and the Fatal Rush ability. The Break Gauge System is a new meter that players can use to execute either a Break Blow or Break Hold. The Break Blow is a smash attack that parries enemy strikes while the Break Hold is a powerful hold move which can return attacks from any direction. Lastly, the Fatal Rush is an auto combo of up to four moves, which makes it easier for newcomers to get into the game. A mechanic that’s quite similar to the auto combos from Dragon Ball FighterZ.
Stages in Dead or Alive 6 are also getting their own mechanics including Danger Zones, Rumble Danger, and Mass-Destruction. Danger Zones are various environmental hazards within the stages that can range from the typical stage wall to moving cars. Rumble Danger makes non-player spectators a hazard for players as they can push the fighter back into the ring which causes them to stagger and become open to attacks from their opponents. The Mass-Destruction mechanic introduces destructible objects into the matches, which players can utilize to deal some extra damage by smashing their opponents into them.
So far, two stages have been introduced for Dead or Alive 6. The Colosseum is the main stage of the 6th Dead or Alive Tournament while the Throwdown is a fenced-off part of an alley, perfect for brawls. So far only six characters have been announced for the game including Kasumi, Helena, Hayate, Hayabusa, Jann Lee, and Zack but more characters, stages, and details on the game’s mechanics should be announced as the launch date of the game draws closer.
Dead or Alive 6 is scheduled for release on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC sometime in early 2019.
