E3 2018: Nintendo Switch GameCube Adapter Revealed for Smash Bros Ultimate

A Nintendo Switch GameCube adapter has been revealed by Nintendo during the E3 2018 Nintendo Direct presentation, allowing Super Smash Bros Ultimate players to play the game with a GameCube controller. The GameCube controller is widely regarded as the most natural way to play Super Smash Bros games, with Smash Bros Melee being the pinnacle of the series for many. The adapter will allow players to use the old controller on their Switch.

The GameCube adapter should also allow players to use the GameCube controller with other Switch games, such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The Switch Pro controller does the job just fine, but for purists, the announcement of the Switch GameCube adapter will be a welcome reveal.

It was also been announced that a Nintendo Switch GameCube controller is on its way, with it featuring a special Smash Bros Ultimate logo on its casing. While it certainly looks nice, those who have old GameCube controllers stored away will still be able to use those with their Switch, with the adapter set to provide the same functionality as the one previously provided for the Wii U.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate is set to be an updated version of Super Smash Bros Wii U, with it boasting 64 characters that stretch across the entire Smash Bros series. You can take a look at the full announced roster here.
