Hogwarts Mystery Side Quest

Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery Side Quest is Disturbingly Dark

Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery still has a not-so-surprising large fanbase that is willing to dedicate hours upon hours of their time to the loveable, if expensive Harry Potter game. Players go through year after year of activities, learn spells, complete quests and make friends with the students around them. However, there is one Hogwarts Mystery side quest that stands head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to its disturbing content. You should be aware that this article will contain spoilers for year three, so don’t say we didn’t warn you.

In your third year at Hogwarts, players will be given the opportunity to start a side quest that revolves around one of your friends, Penny Haywood. The quest is named, rather aptly, ‘Penny for Your Thoughts’. In this quest, Penny wants to brew a ‘Forgetfulness Potion’ for herself so she can be rid of some painful memories. You’d be forgiven for thinking that Penny may just want to forget the one time someone was particularly mean to her. But no, she wants to forget something far more disturbing than that.

We don’t know how to break it to you, but here we go. Penny wants to forget the painful time she watched her muggle (non-magical) friend get killed by a werewolf. Horrified? We were too when we discovered what the quest was about. Penny and her friend, Scarlett, had followed the werewolf, only for Scarlett to get killed later on.

It is a disturbing tale, but it answers more than a few questions about Penny’s character. Particularly why her boggart (a magical creature that warps into your greatest fear) is a werewolf. We wonder if there will be anymore truly terrifying content in the next few years, and if so, will it be as gruesome as this one?
