MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries Delayed to 2019

MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries has been delayed to sometime in 2019, according to an announcement by the Piranha Games’ president Russ Bullock on Twitter. MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries will be the first single-player, action game based on the Battletech franchise since MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries in 2002.

While Bullock didn’t cite a specific reason for the delay, he did say that it would be so the studio can “deliver the best single-player MechWarrior experience to date.” He added that the team is “well aware of the responsibility and great opportunity we have in re-introducing MechWarrior to the world.”

According to Bullock, a more specific release date will be announced in December during MechCon in Vancouver, supposedly so they can provide a more definite release date and minimize the chance of further delays. Fans will also have a chance to try out the game at the event as a playable demo will be made available.

“Although undoubtedly many Mechwarrior fans will initially be disappointed by the longer wait, we also feel confident and assured that we will get 100% support from Mechwarrior fans to release the best product possible,” the developer wrote.

MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries was originally announced back in 2016 and was initially expected to release later this year. As previously mentioned, it will be first first-person, action MechWarrior game in 17 years. The game will put players inside the cockpits of the franchise’s iconic mechs and will feature both single-player and up to four player co-op gameplay. The game will also launch with full mod support.

The new title is set during the Third Succession War where players take on the role of a rookie MechWarrior pilot. Players will be able to accept missions from different factions, which may affect the course of the player’s career in the game.

MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries is now scheduled for release sometime in 2019 for the PC. You can check out the game’s trailer from MechCon 2017:
