The Shenmue 3 Kickstarter has reached the $7 million dollar stretch goal. Hitting the lofty financial goal means that the Toy Capsule Box Set is now available and ‘Battle System Expanded – AI Battling’ will now be included in the game.
Developer Ys Net said that with the combined Kickstarter and Slacker Backer campaigns they have reached $7 million stretch goal. This news comes from a backer’s update on Shenmue 3‘s official Kickstarter page. In this update, Ys Net revealed that the Toy Capsule Box Set is now available to purchase through Fangamer. The Toy Capsule Box Set is essentially a limited edition for Shenmue 3. Fans can get the Ryo, Shenhua, Chai, and Forklift set as an add-on or an upgrade.
Achieving the $7 million stretch goal means that Ys Net can now include Battle System Expanded – AI Battling. Ys Net detailed what this new system is in the stretch goal update:
“This control system lets you automatically unleash the perfect technique in response to the opponent’s positioning and distance. R&D for this system is based on Yu Suzuki’s concept for players who are not used to fighting games or for those who want a full immersion battle experience. This battle system is highly compatible with, and will be an extension to the current battle system.”
The announcement also included a brand new screenshot taken from the game, showing the battle system in action. The new image definitely has a Yakuza vibe to it, showing Ryo taking on a bunch of enemies at once:
Shenmue 3 was announced at E3 2015, an E3 that also saw Final Fantasy VII Remake get announced. Many thought that a third entry into the beloved action-adventure series was never going to happen, as fans had been waiting over a decade to see how Ryo Hazuki’s story would end. The announcement took people by surprise by both the fact it was actually announced and that it would be on Kickstarter. The Kickstarter fears didn’t faze many people, as Shenmue 3 became the fastest funded Kickstarter of all time.
Shenmue 3 is scheduled to release in 2019 for PS4 and PC.
